Sean Matthew Tillman is actually a serious musician, although you wouldn’t necessarily guess that from his shtick. After a stint in the late ’90s respected Minneapolis-based noise rockers Calvin Krime, he created the character of Har Mar Superstar in 2000, and he’s been riding it ever since.
His character is oozes comical sensuality, as Tillman plays his claims of being a sex god against his not-terribly-hunky appearance. As tongue-in-cheek as Har Mar Superstar is, the act is grounded in Tillman’s considerable songwriting abilities — and it’s entertaining.
Har Mar Superstar headlines the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Summer in the City series, taking place on its front plaza (or its lobby stage in case of rain). Cleveland’s Nowhere opens.
Summer in the City also offers food trucks in front of the Rock Hall and refreshments available for purchase on the plaza.
