Blu Monsoon is really just getting started in the local music scene. They’ve only been playing out a lot for about a year and a half when they released an EP called At 21 and Daisy
The young instrumental quartet’s bread and butter is jazz, R&B, and funk, with tunes by Weather Report, Booker T & the MGs, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra beefing up their repertoire of jazzy originals. They’ve released another album, Hot Tub Maintenance, and the’re continuing to fill their schedule with shows such as the one they’ll play at the Music Box Supper Club this week.
The Mixed Elements band, which opens the show, plays funky music with a twist of jazz. And they’re even younger: playing out only about two years, these teenagers are still in high school.
