Harvest Festivals Celebrate Fall Bounty

Sat 9/20 @ noon-4PM

Sat 9/20 @ 1-6PM

The harvest is pouring in now (where to put all those tomatoes?) so it’s time to celebrate.  And two area community farms — one in the heart of the city and one way out on the outskirts — are inviting the public to celebrate with them.

The Ohio City Farm is wrapping up its fifth season — hard to believe it’s been that long since those horse-driven Amish plows were preparing the land just behind Ohio City’s bustling brewery district.

If you haven’t stopped by all summer (its farm stand is open throughout the growing season on Friday and Saturday mornings), now’s the time to do so. Come to the farm’s Harvest Festival before or after stopping at the West Side Market a block away for tours, kids crafts, a pie-baking contest, live music, and a chance t meet representatives from the five groups who grow on the nearly six-acre space. It runs from noon-4pm.

Out in Hunting Valley, the Case Western Reserve University Farm holds its fourth annual Harvest Festival, showcasing this farm that raises food for its CSA, farmers markets, and Bon Appétit, which caters campus eateries

There’ll be tons of activities including hiking, hayrides, student performances, music, dancing, cornhole, crafts, cookie decorating, yoga, herb planting, and a grass maze. Buses will leave from Thwing Hall on campus every half hour and return on the quarter hour so you don’t have to drive all that way, although there is free parking on site. It run from 1-6pm.

Both festivals are free.
