Summer Soiree Showcases New Area Jam Bands @KentStage

Fri 9/12 @ 8PM

It’s not summer anymore, but that doesn’t stop jam bands from acting like there’s an endless summer going on. Hence the Summer Soiree at the Kent Stage, which is rapidly becoming hippie central.

The show features four new area bands with an affinity for the jam scene. They include Adam’s Ale, which features members of longtime Ohio jam bands Waterband and Ekoostik Hookah. Calling themselves “bright and uplifting,” the band’s bio says “The warm sounds of the lead trombone provide whimsy, while highly danceable grooves and an unmistakable connection to each and every soul within earshot, make this band a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.”

Kent’s Drunken Sunday, also relatively new to the area scene, fuse funk, reggae, rock and hip hop, a popular combination with bands who appeal to college audiences.

Cleveland trio Yosemight also likes to mix things up with a little funk, a little bluegrass, a little reggae, a little Latin sound. Like Drunken Sunday, they’ve been on the scene about two and a half years.

Alex Hall’s Figurehead (pictured), self-dubbed “a jam-band juggernaut squeezed into a progressive framework and tinged with a vintage rock attitude,” is the newest of the four bands, formed earlier this year by guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Alex Hall following his departure from another area jam band, Aliver Hall.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
