HEDGE Gallery has been presenting a series of mini-group shows, matching two or three artists with sympathetic styles that offer a conversation between their approaches.
Its final show of 2025, called On the Edge, will offer work by three Cleveland-area aritsts: painter David King, sculptor Kenn Hetzel and photographer Daniel Levin.
King’s recent oil paintings, constructions and cut-outs revolve around the unease people feel when they’re coping with change, using images of strangers in odd situation that combine humor and mystery.. “I portray these feelings by using distinct edges to create unfamiliar worlds for the individuals I paint,” he says. “I place figures on new, unearthly planes, construct elaborate fractured environments, and remove and release others from their environment altogether.”
Sculptor Kenn Hetzel is known for his organic wood, stone and found-object pieces, currently focusing on climate change and the human condition, using a range of different materials make political observations about the environment and the human condition.
Daniel Levin will also be looking at dislocation and accidental experiences. He says “I am never interested in history within a vacuum. My interests invariably relate to how our histories can help us understand our present.”
The show opens with a preview on Wednesday November 19 @ 5-7pm, and has its official opening on Friday November 21 @ 5-8pm during 78th Street Studios’ Third Friday.
