When legendary producer Tommy LiPuma made a generous donation to Cuyahoga Community College last year and they named their Center for Creative Arts after him, he promised he’d be back, and not once but many times. The man keeps his word.
This time around, the guy who produced Paul McCartney’s 2012 Grammy-winning album Kisses On The Bottom brought his buddy and fellow producer Bruce Botnick (MC5, The Doors, Love, E.T., Star Trek, Rambo) to Tri-C and they collaborated on the production of a recording of the song Route 66. Cool Cleveland was in the room and shot this PHOTOSTREAM.

The production focused on hands-on participation by Tri-C students: voice majors, music majors, communications majors, jazz majors, and others worked side by side with students and faculty in their Recording Arts & Technology program: audio production, video, and studio engineering students were scurrying around helping LiPuma and Botnick rig the studio, record the stellar backing band: Joe Hunter- piano, Demetrius Steinmetz- bass, and a student drummer), then start laying down vocal tracks.
Halfway through, who shows up but Tri-C alum and trumpet sensation Dominick Farinacci… just to watch the masters at workWhat a session!
You can talk with LiPuma and Botnick on Tue 3/12 at 7PM in the Black Box Theatre at Tric-C’s Center for Performing Arts.
