The Tech Belt
Hunter Morrison on Mental Maps

Think of the map of where you live. Does it go all the way across Northeast Ohio? Does it include Akron? Youngstown? Pittsburgh? Hunter Morrison, former Planning Director for the City of Cleveland and now Director of Campus Planning and Community Partnerships at Youngstown State University uses the geographer’s concept of “mental maps” to challenge us to think broadly about where exactly we live.

Watch the video and hear how new mental maps are vying for our attention as our “Tech Belt” that stretches from NEO to Eastern PA, competes in the 21st Century with 20 other “megapolitan areas” such as the “Florida Corridor” (Tampa to Orlando) or the “Greater Metroplex” (Dallas, Ft. Worth to Oklahoma City).

Driving this point home, the Regional Learning Network, a collaboration between Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh is hosting the conference, “Rebuilding The Cities That Built America,” on Fri 5/21 from 9AM – 4PM in Youngstown. Register. Learn more about the Tech Belt here.
