PHOTOSTREAM: Lottery League

Nearly 160 local musicians performed in 42 bands as part of the third Lottery League Big Show Saturday April 13.

For 12 hours, they performed on three stages at the Agora in bands formed by a random draw that took place at the Beachland Ballroom in early February. Each band spent the next two months preparing ten minutes of music for this show.

More about the event’s background here.

This time around, the musicians really displayed their creativity, coming up with a range of musical styles and presentations, including metal parodies Queens of Hell and Dinosaur Coffin (who constructed a large coffin prop), electronic/hip hop duo the Egons, who made the best of losing two members along the way, and  Psychic Thrills, which included flute in its mostly instrumental music. Many of the bands sounded so good and had such a strong and coherent identity that you hoped they’d continue to explore what they were doing long after the Big Show was history

Here are photos from seven of the 12 hours — sorry about missing the bands at the beginning an the end, but it was a long (but fun) day.
