Whatever Floats Your Boat…

Sat 9/7 @ 10am

Go green! The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is hosting its 5th annual Great Lake Erie Boat Float. Held at Edgewater Beach, this fun boat building/race competition promotes lake conservation and recycling. Build your own boat out of recycled materials and compete in categories like fastest boat, best use of recyclable materials, most artistic style and the li’l sailors competition.

Need inspiration? CMNH gives two inspiring examples of turning recycled materials into sailable rafts. The first is Marcus Eriksen’s Bottle Rocket raft which he sailed all the way down the Mississippi River in 2003, and the second is Eriksen’s second great success sailing a plastic raft across the Pacific Ocean in 2008. Registration is free, but needs to be done before the event takes place.
