Free July Music Series Opens @CleveMetroParks Rocky River

Thu 7/3 @ 6-8PM

It’s getting to be that you could go hear live local music outdoors for free (or almost free) somewhere in the area every day of the week — and on some days, have two or three choice.

The latest series to launch its season is the Stinchcomb Summer Concert Series, named after Cleveland Metroparks founder William Stinchcomb 97 years ago. Every Wednesday in July, a local act will play at the Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial in the Rocky River Reservation.

Pack a picnic, grab a blanket, throw those lawn chairs in the car, gather the family, and head on down.

It starts with eight-piece jump/blues/swing band Blue Lunch, which comprises some of the area’s best musicians. Together nearly 30 years, they released their first nationally distributed album, Blue Lunch Special, on California-based Ripcat Records last year, and they’re already finishing up recording their next.

Meanwhile, they’re a great band to shake, rattle and roll to on a nice summer night.

The rest of the schedule includes the Chardon Polka Band (7/10), a young band keeping a beloved pieces of Cleveland’s heritage alive, reggae band Outlaws I&I (7/17), rockabilly rockers Bellfuries (7/24), and swamp rock ensemble Cats on Holiday (7/31). Every one is a band that will make you want to dance, each in a different sort of way.

There’s no indoor option so in case of rain, the concert is cancelled.

Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial Scenic Overlook is located off Hogsback Lane in Rocky River Reservation, between Valley Parkway and Riverside Drive in Cleveland.
