Author Richey Piiparinen Tells His Story — and Cleveland’s — at Happy Dog

Wed 5/1 @ 7:30PM

The “Happy Dog Takes On” series, co-sponsored by the City Club, has greatly expanded since it stated as a series of information foreign policy discussions, taking place at the Gordon Square music venue, with a wider range of topics.

It goes even further afield this month when it “takes on” the story of noted Cleveland urban development specialist Richey Piirparinen, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in early 2021 and who recently wrote a book called Octopus Hunting, in which he entwines his fight for his personal survival with Cleveland’s fight to revive its status as a major city. He applies his expertise in why cities decline, the impact of that on their people and what they need to pull themselves out of their death spiral to his own story of confronting his health decline.

You can join Richey at the Happy Dog and have some beer and tater tots while listening or you can access the livestream which will be available on the City Club website starting at 7:30pm. If you have questions, you can tweet @TheCityClub or text 330-541-5794.

It’s free and open to all.
