PHOTOSTREAM: Save WCSB Rally @ City Club by Anastasia Pantsios

10.17.2025 WCSB protest at City ClubFri 10/17

On Friday October 17, while the City Club at Playhouse Square hosted a forum on “The Future of Public Radio” with ideastream president/CEO Kevin Martin as one of the panelists, a group of around 100 protestors gathered on Euclid Avenue in front of the City Club to show their displeasure with idea stream’s takeover of Cleveland State’s long-running radio station WCSB-FM 89.3, known for its diverse format, to program a 24/7 mainstream jazz station known as “JazzNEO.” Chants of “shame” were audible inside the City Club, and the shades on the front window were pulled down to hide the protesters from forum attendees. (City Club CEO Dan Moultrop did come out and engage the protesters while Martin evaded them.) The protestors ranged from college students to boomers who had likely been listening to he station for most of its nearly 50 years on the air. They were united by one demand: return WCSB to the students.
