Through January 4, 2026
On March 7, 2026, Canalway Partners will be presenting its Towpath Trail Lantern Parade for the fifth year, a free, family-friendly event that greets spring, even though it’s actually the day BEFORE w welcome daylight savings time with open arms! Each year, everyone is invited to come down to the trailhead behind the former Sokolowski’s in Tremont and join the celebration, bringing their own lanterns made from upcycled materials illuminated by battery or solar power.
And once again, it’s looking for area artists to create featured lanterns to lead the parade. This year, lanterns should be at least ten feet tall and reflect themes inspired by Northeast Ohio history as well as environmental sustainability.
“In previous years, we’ve featured lanterns highlighting nature and history and we hope to do that this year in a way that also recognizes the importance of 2026 and Cleveland’s role in the history of our nation,” says Canalway Partners executive director Mera Cardenas in a press release. “We look forward to seeing how local artists interpret this idea and how they incorporate it into their lantern designs.”
Interested artists should submit a statement of interest, a proposed lantern design, and images of previous work by January 4, 2026. Get complete information here.
