It’s a big month for plant sales, since this is the time when things go in the ground, and more and more of the plant sales are focusing on native plants, which are healthier for the environment, supporting the local ecosystem of plant, insect, pollinator, bird and animal life. Plants introduced from elsewhere, while often ornamental and lovely in gardens, sometimes outcompete local plants and upset the natural balance.
Two years ago Meadow City Nursery started doing pop-ups at plant sales, and then last year, opened its own hoop house and retail facility in a vacant lot right of the Shoreway at East 152nd. Its founders met while at The Ohio State University’s School of Environment and Natural Resources and, discovering their common passion for protecting and enhancing our natural ecosystem, decided to go into business together.
Meadow City reopens for the season Wednesday May 8 @ 10AM-6PM. It will be open Wednesdays throughout May, and Thursdays-Sundays all summer long.
