Blue Collar Rocker Mary Cutrufello at Wilbert’s

Fri 5/17 @ 9PM

Singer/guitarist/songwriter Mary Cutrufello has been knocking around the country for almost 20 years, playing her high-energy, Springsteen-influenced blue-collar rock from a series of different home bases (She’s now based in St. Paul, Minnesota).

There have been many “new Springsteens” over the years — with Gaslight Anthem and the Hold Steady the most prominent recent acts to adopt the style. As a woman — and an African-American one at that — Cutrufello can’t help but lend her music a distinctive perspective. The seven albums she’s released between 1998 and 2012 feature her big, dark songs brimming with vivid imagery that brings characters and situations to vivid life. Her passionate performances animate them still more

Cutrufello performs at Wilbert’s, following her participation in a Townes Van Zandt tribute concert at the Beachland earlier in the week.
